Journal Prompts for Episode 10
Has Our View of Sin Been Worthless?
Corrupted but Treasured Journal Prompts for Seeing the Image of God
Hey friend,
In this week’s episode of Prayers from the Middle, I wrestled with a question that has been shaping me: What really happens to the image of God in us when sin enters the story? For years, I heard that sin made humanity worthless. But digging deeper, I discovered that the word “worthless” in Romans 3:12 actually means corrupt.
That shift changes everything. A corrupted file isn’t junk — it’s broken, but still treasured. And if God still treasures us, even in our corruption, then maybe our understanding of humanity, love, and worth needs to be reframed.
Here are some journal prompts to help you explore this:
🖊️ Journal Prompts
Image of God in Me
Where do I most clearly see God’s image reflected in my own life?
Where do I feel “corrupted,” and how might God still treasure me there?
Image of God in Others
Think of someone you struggle to love. How might remembering they bear God’s image shift your perspective?
What practices help me treasure people instead of dismissing them?
Worthless vs. Corrupted
How has the teaching that sin makes us “worthless” shaped the way I see humanity?
What changes when I replace “worthless” with “corrupted”?
Love and Holiness
Have I emphasized holiness over love in my own faith journey?
What would it look like to hold love and holiness together as equally godly?
Practical Invitation
This week, when I encounter someone, what happens if I whisper in my spirit: “Image of God”?
How does that practice reshape my interactions?
I would love to hear what comes up for you as you write. If you try the “Image of God” practice this week, let me know — I would be honored to share in your reflections.
With prayers straight from the middle of all of this stuff,
Bria
